Timmy Kyaw

Hi!
I'm Timmy Kyaw,

officially, Kaung Khant Kyaw,
but I also go by Timmy Tseng.

Haha, yes I have a lot of different names. But generally, I like to go by Timmy. A lot of my friends like to say that I'm quite a mysterious and unqiue individual but I like to say that I'm just a simple man shaped by my experiences.

Where?

I come from the little known country of Myanmar in South East Asia. Growing up in this rapidly developing third world country, I witnessed many unique and mindblowing societal changes that occured over lifetime. One of these, was the almost immediate and drastic influence of smart phone technology and the internet. When I was in middle school, the internet was a precious and rare commodity that the general public didn't have access to. Even smart phones themselves were somewhat rare as a simcard in Myanmar used to cost a whopping $300 by itself. Then came political changes in 2014 which led to almost everyone having access to the internet. Greatly intrigued by the impact that different software and platforms such as Facebook had on the society on the national level, I wanted to learn how to better utilize that impactfulness for positive change.

Currently, I'm a student at Pepperdine University so I'm living in Southern California in the greater Los Angeles area. California and America, itself, is of course a drastically different place from where I was born. Living on the other side of the globe for the past 4 years, I have learned and experienced so much which I hope to share with my society back home.

Interests/Passions

Music

My music taste is rather unique and hard to describe. I'm super passionate about asian representation because I feel like there are so many hidden gems from the east that the west sometimes overlooks. One of these gems, is Asian music, specifically Asian music that transcends the language and cultural border. 88Rising is one of those organizations bringing that talent to the west with artists like Rich Brian, Joji, NIKI and more. So when I was presented with the opportunity to be an "88Rising Ambassador" and be a part of that cultural revolution in the summer of 2018, I took it. The spotify playlist I have curated is embeded if you would like to listen to this music I'm passionate about.
